Roof energy reduction system

Cooler roofs, lower energy costs, longer roof life

SIMIX Multi-Surface Ceramic Clearcoat reflects the sun’s infrared heat band on white and light-color roofs, so the roof stops acting as a heat generator. Measured roof and vertical surface temperatures have dropped 35°–74°F.*

After coating · air 99°F

Nine months after cleaning and applying four coats of SIMIX Multi-Surface Ceramic Clearcoat, the roof measured 76.4°F at 9:30 a.m. with the air at 90°F. At 12:30 p.m. the air was 99°F and the roof was still a cool 80.3°F.

Lower attic temperature. This dark asphalt shingle roof ran 140°–168°F before; after cleaning with SIMIX Cleaner and four coats of Clearcoat it measured 97.6°–119.0°F at an 89°F air temperature.

How it works

SIMIX keeps your roof cool

SIMIX’s permanent, high-pH, hygroscopic Ceramic Clearcoat contains potassium and lithium silicates. Applied as directed, it significantly reflects the infrared bandwidth of the sun, preventing the surface from becoming a generator of heat. That keeps your rooftop cooler — and your building cooler, too.

Solar reflectance is a material’s ability to reflect, rather than absorb, the sun’s energy. Low-reflectance roofs get hot in sunlight, which makes the building harder and more expensive to cool.

Hygroscopic means the coating continually attracts water molecules from the air to the surface. That evaporative cooling draws heat out of the roof and drives the SPOT-ON™ reaction that breaks down greenhouse gases, mold and grime.

Impact

  • Reduce your energy bill by 10–20%*
  • Lower indoor temperature and shorter A/C run times
  • Reduce local air temperature (heat island effect)
  • Prevents salt and acid rain damage, extending roof life
  • Reflects UV that causes fading, curling, blistering and cracking
  • Keeps the roof cleaner longer — prevents algae and mold regrowth

Roof and rooftop units together

A cooler roof puts less heat into the building and the rooftop units that sit on it. Most roof programmes treat the RTUs at the same visit — see the HVAC/R page for the coil results.

*Results are site-specific and vary with climate, surface, equipment and utility rate. The hotter the location, the larger the effect.
